2019 Awards of Excellence In Housing
On February 7 the Building Industry & Land Development Association (BILD) Lethbridge Region hosted their 21th annual Awards of Excellence in Housing and presented 30 awards including, Best Development, Custom Builder of the Year, and Builder of the Year. They also presented volunteer awards for Member of the Year and Hall of Fame.
The Awards of Excellence in Housing celebrates the achievement of BILD Lethbridge Region members that continue to advance the goals of the residential construction industry and who offer quality, affordability, and choice of housing in well planned communities for Lethbridge region consumers.
The award categories included new home design categories, community development, safety, energy efficiency, renovations, marketing, best trade, best supplier, best service professional and custom builder and builder of the year. Criteria for each award is complex and multi-faceted to ensure the absolute highest standards are recognized. Industry professionals from across the country rigorously judged the 70 entries to determine the winners.
Perry Neufeld, BILD Lethbridge President commented, “The product that is being produced by our land developers, homebuilders, renovators, trade and supplier members are at the forefront of innovation and technology and it is truly exciting to be a part of it, congrats to all the winners!”
Bridget Mearns, Executive Officer of BILD Lethbridge, remarked on the degree of competitiveness in all categories “it is truly inspiring to see the level of quality, attention to detail and customer service, and commitment BILD Lethbridge members have in designing, building, and supplying the best products for Lethbridge citizens and region. The judges had a very difficult job.”
Some highlights of the evening included Ashcroft Master Builder being awarded Builder of the Year for 2019. They also won five single family design awards, and Megan King took home the Best New Home Sales Person. Greener Homes won the Custom Builder of the Year and were also awarded the Best Energy Efficient Housing. Avonlea Homes won Best Development for BlackWolf along with four other awards. Empire Home Renovations swept all three renovation categories with their renovation of the “Wicher Residence”, and a single family design award.
Other highlights included awarding John Wickey, of Avonlea Homes, the Hall of Fame award for his 25 years contributing to the home building industry and the community. He was recognized for building the first STARs home in southern Alberta and built 17 in total. John takes great pride in every home he builds and has been recognized for this passion by receiving the H.O.M.E award last year for Best Customer Experience and was awarded builder of the year in 2016. Avonlea has won countless design and safety awards in not only Lethbridge but also on a provincial and national level.
